Setting your New Year goals

Bridal fashion shoot- Andrea's Fashions

I recently read an article published by the Australian government ( ) on setting goals in your business for the New Year. Within the article they placed emphasis not only on setting goals, but on setting what they referred to as SMART goals. I have found this anagram very helpful and hope it will do the same for you.

When planning your goals and objectives for the year, be sure that your goals are,

S    – Specific

M  – Measurable

A   – Achievable

R    – Relevant

T    – Timely

I think a popular goal for any business owner will always be to grow your business. This of course is not restricted to the salon/spa owner, perhaps you are reading this as an employee and thinking ‘well that doesn’t apply to me’, but I have always maintained that a beauty therapist is a ‘business within a business’. Your column is your business, and the busier you are the more successful your column will be.

Keeping this goal in mind, let’s look out how we can make it SMART

Perhaps you currently have 120 regular clients you service. You would like grow your client base by 10% by the end of year, therefore you will need to gain (and retain) one new client every month for the next 12 months. Your specific goal is one new client each month.

How will you measure your achievement? Perhaps you will create a new client file, separate from your existing client, where you can easily identify the new clients. This will also help you to assess if they are returning to the salon, which would be key in measuring your goal for new clientele.

Examine your work schedule and availability to ensure a 10% increase in clientele can be accommodated for. Remember, although you are only looking to gain 1 extra client per month, you will need to have capacity in your diary to assist 12 additional clients by the end of the year.

Ask yourself why you want to achieve this goal, will it assist you in being able to employ staff? Will it allow you to increase your personal earnings? The goal must be relevant to the desired outcome.

Decide how much time you will need to achieve the goal and make sure it is realistic.

Harley wax @ the CT cycle tour expo

A big thank-you to The international Academy of Health and Skincare for inviting us to join them this year at the CT Cycle Tour Expo. We had so much fun with not only the clients visiting the stand, but the Academy students and staff as well.

The energy throughout the expo was sensational from the start on the Thursday all the way through to the finish on the Saturday afternoon. The therapists worked tirelessly getting the cyclists waxed and ready for their big day, I can’t deny we had a few laughs at the client’s responses to the experience (ai,boys!) but overall were pleased with the positive feedback we received on their Harley wax experience.

We know the weekend didn’t turn out quite the way the cyclists had planned, but we would like to give them a big shout-out for participating in our #StopTheYeti campaign and ‘de-yetti-ing’ themselves.

See you next year

Get your salon summer ready

With spring in the air (and the hay-fever to prove it) my thoughts move towards preparations for the hotter season. As we know this is the perfect time of year to build our client base and expand the salon experience of our existing clientele.
With all this opportunity on the horizon, if we do not create a plan of action the opportunities will slip through our fingers. Here’s a few thoughts to assist in your summer season planning.

Set your goals now,
• This time of year is a perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone and push the boundaries. Look at turn-over goals, increased spend per client, new client retention. Remember to split your turnover goals into Retail and Treatment turnover.

Take a quick break,
• The demand on your and your staffs time and energy will increase as silly season hits. You can’t start the season on an empty tank. Perhaps an afternoon off with a small team building exercise to get everyone geared up and excited. A happy worker is an energised worker – And that includes you!

• Don’t be caught off guard, an empty shelf doesn’t sell. Slowly build up your retail and professional stock levels to ensure you are well prepared and confident for the increased demand and turnover opportunities.
• Ask your suppliers for shut-down and re-opening dates so you can plan accordingly.
• Don’t leave it until the last minute, you never know what can happen

Stay focused,
• Don’t become distracted from your goals, keep them visual and don’t take your eye off the prize

Harley Wax Launches NEW Aloe Vera Soothing After-wax Gel

The Harley After-Wax Soothing Gel is manufactured to high standards in the UK.

How it works:
The purpose of the Harley After-Wax Soothing Gel is to soothe the skin once the wax treatment is complete. The Harley After-Wax Soothing Gel is used after either a Harley Hot Wax or Harley Strip Wax to finish the conditioning treatment of the skin. It is an essential step for a Harley Hot Waxing and Harley Strip Waxing treatments. The soothing gel reduces skin irritation, redness and the possibility of any in-growing hairs.

Benefits of the Harley After-Wax Soothing Gel:
• Aloe Vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows in dry climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been used medicinally for centuries.
• Aloe Vera contains powerful antioxidants which belong to a large family of substances known as polyphenols. The polyphenols, when combined with several other compounds found in Aloe Vera can help slow down the growth of specific bacteria’s which could cause infections such as with open exposed skin after waxing treatments.
• Aloe Vera also serves as a well-known treatment for sores and burns which is why it would be beneficial as an After-Wax treatment in order to soothe and minimize skin irritation and redness. This is what makes it an ideal treatment for those with extra sensitive skin.
• Aloe moisturizes the skin without leaving a greasy residue which makes it perfect for after-wax as it leaves the skin cool. Aloe is also used to effectively heal chronic skin problems, such as Psoriasis, Acne and Eczema.
• Aloe Vera gel contains two very important hormones named Auxin and Gibberellins. These hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties which reduce skin inflammation. The Giberellin acts as a growth hormone which stimulates the growth of new cells. It allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally with reduced scarring.

The benefits of waxing for athletes

Sports stars have a public image to uphold, so looking their best is always on the top of their list.

The benefits of waxing for athletes

Not only do athletes remove unwanted hair for their public image but athletes also get rid of excess hair to improve athletic performance. Not only does waxing help athletes perfectly sculpted bodies look great but it also helps their performance on the field.

Body builders also take to waxing for unwanted hair. Nearly all body builders have hair removal needs. For example, if men have thick chest hair, how can they show off those strong chest muscles under all that hair? Waxing helps body builder’s show off all their hard work and time spent in the gym.

Another athlete who takes to waxing is the swimmer, who also needs to get their hair removed since the long hair would drag them down in the water. Smooth skin for a swimmer is essential to their performance which is why most swimmers choose waxing over shaving due to the fact that when shaving, it needs to be done almost every day whereas waxing can leave skin smooth for between two to six weeks

So not only can waxing help you stay smoother for longer but it can also be used to help improve athletic performance whether it’s on the field, in the pool or in the gym.
